Tsavo Trio WIP

I really like these guys, so they made the account jump cut. I promise I'll finish it someday. MAYBE.


This is supposedly a work in progress. It's gonna be real nice, with a background and shading, and maybe even a whole nuther character! gasp! But just in case it's not, here's the shpeal.
Tsavo lions are badass. They eat people sometimes. Google it.
They're also really large compared to other lions, and they don't have manes because of the hot, thorny areas they live in. According to a study I recently read, they actually DO grow manes, but they grow much, much slower than regular lions. So at breeding age, like these three, they have 'teenage' manes, and should they live into old age, they will have full manes.
I've always wondered what would happen if some Tsavo lions met the pride rock gang. So, naturally, I made me some OC's and 6 uncolored comic pages that may or may not make it here.
These three are 'brothers' who lead their pride together, because unlike mufasa and scar, none of them are much like conniving, greedy bastards that hate each other. They live in the 'Badlands' which are hot and miserable, the only prey coming from traveling herds... and tourists. (Don't worry, they only attack people in the most dire situations)
Zur (at the top) is the most like a conniving, greedy bastard of the three. He's clever, and he's damn proud of it. Fortunately, he's also lazy, and doesn't care much for the day-to-day business of the pride, so he leaves that to his partners. Instead, he spends his talents seducing lionesses and leaving lots of little Zurs wandering around the badlands. His mind is only really put to use when the prides in danger, at which time he'll help think of a way out of the situation. The marks on his leg are NOT symmetrical. The scar on his tail is from getting it stuck under a rock as a cub and pulling too hard. 'Zur' comes from the swahili word 'Zurura' meaning 'wanderer.'
Nakula is Zur's brother, from the same litter. He's like, real big. Like baby elephant sized. Despite his intimidating appearance, he's actually a bit 'uppity,' and doesn't tolerate old meat, filth, or outsiders. He thinks highly of himself, not entirely without reason, being that he is the most active leader of the pride, and one of the best hunters. He organizes hunts, joins them (like most Tsavo males), and scares off enemies (quite easily). His markings are symmetrical. His scar is from a particularly fiesty hunter/tourist. Nakula attacked, pinned him, opened his mouth for the kill, and got a really nice 'Joker' slice from the hunter's knife before the guy got away. 'Nakula' is swahili for 'I eat.'
Kucha is Zur and Nakula's adopted brothers, and our good friend Scar's son. In my bored mind, Scar brought in Zira solely to breed a strong heir to his throne, and when Zira gave him Nuka, he was furious, they had a fight, and he left pride rock for several months, allowing Zira to take charge. He wandered into the badlands where he found Kucha's mother, and they made two babies, with Scar hoping to get a Tsavo-strong son to be his heir. He got his wish, but the son came out weak, and looking eerily like Scar's father Ahadi. Having more than a few daddy issues, Scar took the daughter, Vitani, and left the mother with the nearest pride before heading back to pride rock, where Zira, being a vengeful psycho hose-beast, had got herself pregnant with Kovu.
Anyways, Kucha and his mother were taken in by the small pride, which consisted only of Zur and Nakula (cubs at the time), their mother, her mate, and her two sisters. Zur and Nakula claimed Kucha as their baby brother, and when their mother died, Kucha's mother cared for them. Kucha is resourceful like Scar, but has Mufasa's kindness. He's very enthusiastic, and willingly takes charge of some of the less pleasant aspects of being a leader, like rationing food and chasing off hyenas. Being related to Scar and Mufasa, his mane comes in pretty well. When it gets long enough to be an embarrassment to a Badlander, he elects his brothers to help him rip it off to a sufficient length. 'Kucha' roughly means 'abandoned' in Swahili.
As time wore on after Kucha's birth, Zur and Nakula's mother died, the male lion died, the two sisters left with mates, and the three brothers assumed the throne, with Kucha's mother aiding them. However, because of Zur's flirty nature, they have a healthy supply of lionesses and cubs in their pride, but they come and go. Kucha's mother has told the brothers about Scar and Kucha's lost sister, and Scar has become something of a legend to them, because of her exaggeration of his skillz/handsomeness. THE END!
